What comes to mind when you hear the word 'Athens'? The Acropolis and the Parthenon? Cement, gray and old neoclassical buildings? Congested roads and filled café; Yes, these are all typical sights of the city. But there somewhere among them, and the 'other' Athens. That escapes from the norm of the dominant aesthetics and allows us to change our performances. So here are eight parks, places, gardens, roads, beaches in the city and its suburbs, which make us bow to the many faces of the capital.

Diomideios Botanical Garden
The Diomideios Botanical Garden located in Haidari, where the Sacred Way meets almost 2,000 acres of dense forest. Few Athenians, however, know about this green oasis, this and the joy of discovery heightens the feeling of an "exotic" finding the "legs" of Athens. It is the largest botanical garden in the eastern Mediterranean, and will remind you of the large landscaped grounds European metropolises: Without 'bothered' forest vegetation, erected side of thematic routes with plants from around the world and cultivated plants and flowers. Eucalypts from Oceania, chestnut from the Mediterranean, Asian bedding, African melianthoi and 'historical' plants, along with their stories on billboards coexist in the garden, and who has the necessary Open with benches for hangout, picnic and chazi to artificial ponds. The Garden is located at 403 Sacred Way, the entrance is free, and is open daily from 8.00 until 14.00 and on weekends from 10.00 to 15.00.

Anafiotika in Athens
Lily whitewashed houses. Uphill cobbled streets. Unexpected and quiet holiday feeling. The most insular city neighborhood located in the heart of, and worth every time the light panting to get ahead in the picturesque backdrop of flowered courtyards, walls with bougainvillea and blue pots. The feeling that you are in the cycle is even more pronounced in that almost cubic house built by Anafi craftsmen almost two centuries ago, not even roads - only numbers. The only difference from Anafi is that if you turn your head, you will see the vastness of Athens rather Aegean - but like to do, and this is the charm.

The beach of ΚΑPΕ

We know, the coast of Attica, except dirty, is unresponsive, right? Wrong, because in case of ΚΑPΕ  , just before Legraina few skalopatakia will lead you to an oasis almost Cycladic, a sandy cove with crystal clear waters, even hiding a yet smaller, more secret and secluded cove on the left - you simply need to willing to squelch ... for a few meters, so you can have it. The hidden beach with the Cycladic waters not take long to become the fastest widespread secret in the city over the last three years, so it will find many contenders square meters of sand where the stairs lead just before Legraina. Fortunately, however, there is still an "ace" sleeve admittedly this beautiful beach: On the left, as you look at the sea, if you are willing to get wet slightly to spend behind the rocks, you will find yourself in a smaller beach, the small sandy sister CRES will give you much needed privacy.
Apolis: An island in Petroupolis
Apolis: An island in Petroupolis
Built whitewashed canapes with blue pillows. Chairs with blue canvas and slated Cycladic style. Lanterns, atmospheric lighting, shade and great views. We are not in the country at some island, but ... Country of Petersburg. On high of the western suburbs, the multiplex Apolis has set for years a bar shaped like an island, the «Scherzo», which dominates the hill of Agios Dimitrios and appropriate for coffee, drinks and chazi in ... "sea" with condominiums.

The Forest of Siggrou
Not only is the vast expanse of pine trees, almond trees and manicured gardens that make the grove Avenue a surprisingly refreshing oasis, just steps from the Boulevard Ave. It and gravel paths that are particularly popular for those who love jogging or bike in nature. Is the playground and adequate picnic areas or hangout that welcomes the whole family. And it is, finally, the unique (new) Gothic Orthodox Church of Greece, designed by Ernst Ziller and is hidden behind the foliage, and the equally imposing family mansion Avenue, buildings that seem to have landed some kentrikoefropaiki country. Entrance to the forest is allowed from sunrise to sunset.
